Prep the glass: If you like a rim, run a lime wedge around your glass and dip in salt or sugar. Set aside.
Muddle the base: In a shaker, add strawberries, basil, and a tiny pinch of salt.
Gently muddle until the berries are juicy and the basil is fragrant. Don’t shred the basil to bits—just bruise it.
Add liquids: Pour in tequila, lime juice, agave, and orange liqueur if using. Fill the shaker with ice.
Shake hard: Shake for 10–15 seconds until well chilled.
The shaker should feel frosty.
Strain and serve: Fill your prepared glass with fresh ice. Fine-strain the cocktail over the ice to catch seeds and basil bits.
Garnish: Add a basil sprig, lime wheel, and a strawberry slice. Serve immediately.
