Servings: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk (oat, almond, coconut, or dairy)
  • 1½ to 2 teaspoons fresh turmeric, finely grated (or 3/4 teaspoon ground turmeric)
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, finely grated (or 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon (or a small cinnamon stick)
  • 1–2 cracks black pepper (a pinch of ground pepper works too)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or ghee (optional, for richness)
  • Pinch of sea salt (to round flavors)

Method

  1. Warm the milk: Add milk to a small saucepan over low-medium heat. Don’t let it boil—gentle steam is perfect.
  2. Add spices: Stir in turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, and a pinch of salt. If using a cinnamon stick, add it now.
  3. Simmer briefly: Let it gently heat for 4–6 minutes, stirring often. This helps the flavors bloom and keeps the milk from scorching.
  4. Sweeten and enrich: Turn off the heat. Stir in honey or maple, vanilla, and coconut oil or ghee if using.
  5. Strain (optional): If you used fresh grated turmeric/ginger or a cinnamon stick, strain through a fine mesh sieve for an ultra-smooth sip.
  6. Froth and serve: Use a handheld frother or whisk briskly for 10–15 seconds. Pour into a mug and dust with a pinch of cinnamon or turmeric if you like.
